Price Increase on Food in Canada

People are stressed about the increase on food prices in Canada. For 2022 specialists predict a raise of 5% to 7%.

August 2020, prices for food have increased significantly. Quebec comes with a 2.5% increase on food products. We are just at the start of the economic crisis and the recovery is going to be very slow.

Prices have increased on food due to the labor shortage in particular, but the transportation also did not help because of the increase in the price of oil.

In addition, due to the labor shortage inflation is 3.4% on food that was purchased in restaurants compared to products purchased in stores which have an increase of 2.1%.

Inflation particularly hit pork, oil, eggs and butter. So now when people see a discount at the supermarket they are tempted to buy in large quantities but in the end it is of no use to them since they have to throw away a large part in the end because the food is expired.

In 2022, economists predict a raise of 5% to 7% at national scale. Sylvain Charlebois, Director of the Agri-food Analytical Sciences Laboratory at Dalhousie University said that. “ For a family of four, that increase is 966$ more on a grocery bill for the year. It’s a lot more than other years.”
