Studio 5.4; Moving Out to Something Bigger
March 16, 2022
The dance studio in Sainte-Catherine-de-la-Jacques-Cartier Studio 5.4 decided it was time to move out for a bigger place.
Jessika Proulx, the owner of the company, opened her studio in her home town a few years ago and she decided to rent a place where there is one dance room in Sainte-Catherine-de-la-JC. But now, she is moving out in a place with two bigger dance rooms.
In this studio, you can learn a lot of different styles. They are proposing competitive lessons and uncompetitive lessons. You can start dancing in this place at 3 years old in a class called “Initiation à la danse”. You can have access to uncompetitive classes one time a week for 1 hour. On the competitive side, you have normally one class a week but for 1h30 to 3h. To get in the competitive team, you have to do auditions in the begging of each dance seasons. You can also have access to workshops of different dance styles and private classes with different coaches that can make you learn about new types of dancing.
Each year, the dancers are invited to participate to shows. All the recreative dancers can dance in the shows after each sessions, so one at christmas and another one at the end of the year to show to the families what they learned. The competitive dancers are also participating in them, but they are also doing competitions around the province of Quebec during the year. The dancers are living different experiences with real judges and the adrenaline of the competition.
The studio opened in 2019 just before Covid-19 started. The pandemic made the begging for this company really hard to live through. The coaches were even coaching kids and teenagers online classes which was very complicated but they made it through. The first show of Studio 5.4 was on christmas 2021 after a few cancellation due to Covid. The studio is now ready to go back in competition strong.
The company was created by Jessika Proulx, a strong woman that always has been very passionate dancer. She started dancing when she was 4 years old and by then she never stopped. She started coaching her passion more then 10 years ago in dance studios, high schools, primary schools and camp. She even participated to international and provincial competition like Dance World Cup in 2015 and World of Dance in 2015 and 2016.
