Definitive Closure of IGA Marché Denis

Jack Fortin-Savard

On May 8, the local grocery store in Duberger-Les Saules is going to close permanently.

For economic reasons, the grocery store that opened in the 1960’ is going to close. Approximately 60 employees are going to lose their jobs. Another IGA near this one is proposing jobs for them.

The IGA Marché Denis needed important renovation. The price was growing to three or four million dollars and the renovation would have taken too long. They decided it was better to close than to repair because it wasn’t profitable.

‘’It was useful having a grocery not too far from our home because it wasn’t a long way for us”, said regular clients after learning it was closing in less than two months.

It was very profitable for them because a lot of apartments near the grocery store were filled with regular clients and some had no cars. Also, the elders living the Manoir Duberger were usually calling at this IGA for delivery. The price wasn’t too high and the delivery wasn’t too long. A single call and the groceries were done for the rest of the week.
