Canada will send Leaopard 2 thanks to Ukraine to support their war effort against Russian invasion.

Canada sent its last tank on the morning of February 9. The four Leopard 2 tanks sent to Ukraine come from  Edmonton, in Alberta and Gagetown, in New Brunswick. The tanks are only a first step, Canada will have to send spare parts and munition. So far, they have promised four units, but Defense Minister Anita Anaud says the number could rise. Ms.Anand assured that Canada will support Ukraine, “We will help in the short and long term with the military assistance necessary to win this war,’’ she said.

Leopard 2 is a world-renowned weapon with the potential to impact the battlefields. Leopard 2 combines firepower, mobility and protection. This 60-ton battle tank has massive protection against mines and rocket launchers. It also has a technological system that can locate and target the enemy from a long distance.

It has now been a year since the war in Ukraine began. Since then, there have been just over 18.358 civilian casualties. Including 7.031 dead and 11.327 injured. According to estimates about 180,000 Russian soldiers have been killed in Ukraine and 100,000 Ukrainian soldiers. More than 7.2 millions Ukrainians have been registered in Europe. The top three host countries are Poland, Germany and the Czech Republic. According to Unesco, 3000 schools and 239 cultural sites have been affected by the fighting. The reconstruction would cost nearly $349 million.

After Volodymyr Zelensky made several calls for help, several countries decided to send tanks to Ukraine. The United Kingdom was the first to say that they would send the tanks, but several other countries expressed their desire to support Ukraine’s war effort. Among others, the United States, Germany, Norway, Canada and Poland. Other countries have said they wanted to send tanks but have not confirmed shipments yet. This is the case of France, Spain and Finland. For all those who want to send Leopard 2 tanks, it is absolutely necessary to have the agreement from Germany. Without this agreement, no Leopard 2 can be sent.
