Four new sports have been integrated into the Olympics. Indeed, they added these sports to prioritize youth engagement, gender balance, and innovation.
First of all, the IOC (International Olympic Committee) added surfing to the Games. It was first seen in Tokyo in 2020 and was appreciated by the public and will be the same this year. The rules of this competition are to impress the judge by doing tricks on a wave, the surfers will gain points by the variety of types and difficulty of tricks. They will be judged by five judges and the surfers will be using shortboards instead of longboards because they are much faster and maneuverable.
They are also adding breaking which is a style of dance. This sport first started at the 2018 Olympics, it had a lot of success and this is why it has been chosen to be featured this year. There are gonna be two events, one for boys and one for girls, they are doing a solo battle against another person. They will adapt themselves to the music of the DJ by performing spectacular moves to interest the judge and take the first breaking Olympic contest.
The next sport is climbing, which is a dangerous sport that has become popular over the last 20 years. There will be three events, boulder, speed, and lead. For the boulder, they will have to climb a 4.5m wall that has no ropes and in as little time as possible. For the speed competition, the athletes will have to be quick if they do not want to be eliminated. It is a one-on-one elimination round, they gotta climb a wall of 15 meters that is five degrees inclined within 6 seconds for men and 7 seconds for women. For the lead, the competitors will have to climb a wall they haven’t seen before. They will need to climb the wall the highest possible. The wall will be more elaborate than the wall they climbed previously.
The last sport they added is skateboarding. Mostly practiced by the youth this sport was first seen at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics. Two events will occur during this competition park and street. In the park event, they will have to do complex tricks to meet the following criteria, execution, complicity, and amplitude of their tricks. In the street events, they will follow a straight course that looks like an urban environment and will do tricks during their run. They need to meet the same criteria as the park events.
The Olympic program is upgrading each, they are doing their best to keep the competition as entertaining as possible. They bring to light new sports to please everyone and new athletes who might be champions one day.
