This product was born out of a collaboration between ISSEY MIYAKE and Apple. They resemble a piece of clothing we all wear every day, socks, except they are not meant to be worn but to be shown off. They can have long or short straps and come in a variety of colours, appealing to the eye and matching your vibe.
“The design of iPhone Pocket speaks to the bond between iPhone and its user, while keeping in mind that an Apple product is designed to be universal in aesthetic and versatile in use,” shared Yoshiyuki Miyamae, one of the design directors of MIYAKE DESIGN STUDIO. “Apple and ISSEY MIYAKE share a design approach that celebrates craftsmanship, simplicity, and delight,” said Molly Anderson, Apple’s vice president of Industrial Design.
The price of the iPhone pockets deceived many people, as the piece of clothing seems cheap but is very expensive. Going up to 149,95$(U.S) for a short strap and even 229,95$(U.S) for a long strap. Surprisingly, certain sizes and colours sold out within hours of launch online, especially in the U.S and other major markets.
The iPhone pocket also has a similar product, the iPod sock, released in the early 2000s. It was meant to protect the iPods from scratches and bumps, though it wasn’t like an accessory, as it couldn’t be held and didn’t have straps.
Many people felt the new iPhone pocket was a mockery of their clients, proving that they’ll buy anything new even if it doesn’t serve a purpose. Some agree it resembles a “Thneed,” a fictional, multifunctional object created by the Once-ler character in Dr. Seuss’ children’s book “The Lorax.” The only difference is their functions, but both reflect the extent of consumerism in our lives.
The iPhone Pocket is categorized as an accessory to hold your phone, primarily for fashion purposes. It was not meant to solve any technical problems, though it can be helpful for keeping your phone safe, given that pockets have become smaller over time. Especially in women’s clothing, pockets have always been smaller than those in men’s, sometimes rendering them useless. This was a limited-edition accessory available only online and in select Apple Store locations in specific countries. It was released on November 14, 2025, and sold out completely shortly thereafter, with reports by November 25, 2025, confirming it was no longer available for purchase.
