A 14-year-old girl from the Camaradière went to Montreal this fall for an important running events.

Vickie Collin  participated to the Provincial crosscountry Championship at Montreal at Maison Neuve Park with her club, The Rouge et Or.

It was a 4 km race because Vickie was in the cadet category. She finished the race 17 out of 45 with the time of 16 minutes and 13 seconds.

It was really cold. The weather and the trail didn’t help her, there was a big hill. ‘’ It was the most difficult trail that I have done’’ she said.

Vickie Collin started to train for the provincial in August. Her training started with small jogs after she continued with technical runs (4 times 1 km) and at the end full runs (4km). She usally ran with her club, The Rouge et Or crosscountry one. She continued her training with building muscles and practices for her stability.

At the beginning of the race, she wasn’t even stress, just excited. At the end, she was proud of her time. ” I know I wasn’t going to win so I decided to run for myself. ”

She thought running was her sport and started to run seriously in fifth grade. She started because her Phys Ed teacher convinced her to try it.  The competitions came in her life since last year when she was 13 years old.

Last year, all the competitions she did were 3 km because she was in the benjamin category.
Also, last year, Vickie paticipated to the run of la Commission scolaire de la Capitale and qualified herself for the school Regional crosscountry Championship. She finished 2 out of 50. Unfortunatly, she doesn’t recall her time.

At the school regional, she qualified herself for the school Provincial crosscountry Championship with a time of 12 minutes and 6 seconds and she finished the race  6 out of 50. At the school Provincial crosscountry Championship she finished the race with a time of 12 minutes and 4 seconds but her time didn’t let her win.

When she runs, she feels like escaping her problems. She feels alone, it’s the moment where she can clears her mind.

She was the first student of the school since 10 years to participate to the school Provincial cosscountry Championship so the Camaradière  decided to support her.
