An estimated 79% of the plastic that has ever been created is still here in our environment. So there is a lot of ways to reduce pollution. Those examples are just a little bit of all pollution but when you use an alternative it helps the environment a lot.

Water bottles

According to a study by American research, more than 93% of the water bottles analyzed contain microplastic particles. In addition to being dangerous for the environment, they also present health risks. Americans buy 29 million water bottles per year. For only six bottles people buy, only one is recycled. It means that it takes up to 1000 years for every single bottle to decompose. As a result, U.S. landfills are overflowing with 2 million tons of discarded water bottles. An estimated 79% of the plastic that has ever been created is still here in our environment.

An alternative: We could usually use gourds. That is the best alternative instead of using plastic water bottles. Some bottles are also stainless steel, so the liquid inside the bottle can either stay cold or hot, it depends on the liquid you put in. Other containers can also have a compartment to put fruit in it.

Plastic bags

From production to recycling, plastic bags are an unimaginable source of pollution. A plastic bag can take more than 450 years to degrade and 80% of the bugs won’t be recycled or sorted. Birds also can mistake plastic bags for food and it fills their stomach with toxic debris. Fish also eat thousands of tons of plastic a year and they transfer it to bigger fish or marine mammals.

An alternative: Never go out without your fabric bag again. The tote bag is one of the most ecological, economical, and practical alternatives that people invented to replace plastic bags. You can also put your reusable bags in your car or your purse. Some shops will have the option to buy paper bags, and those don’t pollute as much as the plastic bags.

Disposable razors

Razors are not made to stay for long, we use per average 1 per week. We could use up to 52 razors per year. BIC razors still sell 11 million copies each day. We can also count a double plastic razor or even a triple packaging in plastic. 2 liters of water is used for one shave. “Plastic razors are the new plastic straws” its subject declared. America produced 2 billion disposable razors and blades. “163 million consumers in the U.S. used disposable razors.” said the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.

An alternative: You could switch to a non-disposable razor such as a double-edge (DE) they are made with metal and not plastic so it doesn’t pollute. The other option is a single blade, they also have a great after-shave look, they do the same job as a multi-blade razor.
