As the war in Ukraine continues, some people stand out by their dedication to defend their country against Russia.

Five days after the beginning of the Russian invasion,  three Ukrainians got known around the world for their brave actions. There is The Ghost of Kyiv, The Ukrainian Reaper, and the president Volodymyr Zelensky.

The Ghost of Kyiv is the nickname of a Ukrainian pilot that took down around 10 Russian fighter jets since the beginning of the war. He pilots a MIG-29 Fulcrum, a similar jet to the F-15C. The man became the first ace pilot since 1999. An ace pilot is someone that won five aerial battles and he already doubled that score.

The nickname of another soldier is The Ukrainian Reaper, who also got popular on social media quickly with his impressive stats. He killed 20 Russians within two days with his sniper.

The last hero is none other than Ukraine’s president, Volodymyr Zelensky. He’s showing his people that he cares about his country by staying in Kyiv, the capital of the country, even while the war is raging. He also declined the invitation of the United States to evacuate him out of the country and responded:’’ The fight is here; I need ammunition, not a ride.’’ The President also gives guns to anyone that is willing to defend the country.

At this time, every Ukrainian soldier is considered a hero, but these three are giving the citizens hope that there is someone protecting them at all times.
