For the first time in history, the fifa world cup will be held in winter instead of the usual summer ones.

Aside from the historical decision based on geography, Qatar 2022 will be the first World Cup to be staged in the Northern Hemisphere winter months, beginning in November and ending in December.Despite the fact that there has been opposition to the proposal since 2010, FIFA’s two feasibility assessments in Qatar in 2014 and 2015 concluded that the tournament could not be held during the regular June and July dates.

Due to the country’s extreme summer heat, Qatar’s candidacy for the 2022 World Cup included the option to stage the tournament during the Northern Hemisphere winter months. The domestic Qatar Stars League is generally held from September to April. Even at the end of April, average temperatures exceed over 92 degrees Fahrenheit (33 C). As part of the Qatar 2022 bid team’s efforts to address heat and humidity difficulties, notably during the winter months, each World Cup stadium has been upgraded.

Despite some reservations over FIFA’s choice to select Qatar as hosts, the 2022 World Cup in Qatar will set a number of precedents in the competition’s long history. Qatar 2022 will be the first World Cup to be staged in the Middle East, as part of FIFA’s commitment to hold at least one major international tournament in the region by 2030. The majority of competing nations were initially opposed to the idea because of the impact on home European seasons, but FIFA has stood firm in its decision to keep Qatar as the tournament host.
