Jarren Duran a professional athlete playing with the Red Sox since July 17 2021 exposes all his difficulties related to his mental health because of professional sport and all his thoughts on his need to perform better. This athlete always had a constant desire to perform at his best, but no matter how hard he worked, that was never enough for him. He often felt like he didn’t measure up, even to his own expectations.
Now, after approximately three years, Duran chose to share his story all around the world. He got interviewed by journalists and asked Netflix to produce a documentary about his personal story. On April 8 2025, the show was released on Netflix. The docuseries is named “The clubhouse: A year with the red sox”.
In the series, Jarren Duran discuss about his struggles with depression and his dark times that he endures. He says he attempted suicide due to his poor performance during his Major League Baseball debuts in 2021 and 2022.
Duran stated: “It got to the point where I was sitting in my room with my rifle and a bullet,” he revealed. “I pulled the trigger and it clicked, but nothing happened. Even today, I think God didn’t let me kill myself because I really don’t understand why the gun didn’t go off.”
However, after these tragic moments, Jarren Duran refound strenght and happiness. His 2024 season attracts a lot of attention from viewers because he had a breakout season, leading the American league in doubles, triple, plate appperances, and at-bats. He was also named All-Star MVP honor. This season marked a stunning come back for him.
Jarren Duren decided to talk about his suicide attempt to help others by reminding them that those who suffer from mental health issues are capable of recovery. “Even if you’re feeling bad, you can get through it. You’re not alone. I suffered too, and I found the strength to carry on.”, he said.
Jarren Duran’s story is used as a reminder that mental health is just as important as physical strength and that vulnerability is not weakness, it’s courage.
Now, playing as a defensive outfielder, Duran continues his career with the Red Sox. In a game, played Monday, at Fenway Park, he hit two doubles against the Toronto Blue Jays, even tough red sox lost 6-2. His performance, resilience, and honesty are winning more than games, they’re changing lives.
