She had the opportunity to join a team in secondary 1 and couldn’t stop playing since. A sec 5 girl who discovered volleyball in elementary school was recruited on January 31st to join the D3 level of Mérici college.
Since she started playing, Mélianne Lamontagne has played several positions. Of course, there are some she liked more than others. She is currently playing as an opposite hitter, but she’s going to switch positions and play as a libero next year.
Being recruited to a college team was a big deal for Mélianne, so she attended an open practice. The way it works is that you let the coaches observe how you play and how you react, which is a very important value to them.
Despite attending the open practice, Mélianne didn’t really believe she had a chance of making the squad. She had attended many other schools’ practices before, without success, so she was mostly going to this one to have fun.
She doesn’t plan on making a career out of playing. However, she would like to go as far as she can in her sport, but she fears she might reach the end soon. On the other hand, when she can’t play in a college league, she believes she’ll start coaching.
Mélianne’s parents have helped her a lot since the very beginning of her volleyball journey. In fact, they are the ones who encouraged her to start playing because she was a very shy girl.
A lot of young people have dreams that seem impossible to reach. However, Mélianne testified, saying, “If you have a dream, it will come to life, don’t stop believing,” and “Everything happens for a reason.” She reminded teenagers not to give up their dreams.
