The Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show returned this year to Brooklyn, New York. Many celebrities, including Sarah Jessica Parker, June Ambrose, and Patrick Schwarzenegger, were front row watching this show.
Since the first Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show in 1995, it has become a major celebration worldwide, but what do we think of this show now? Has it lost its interest? Does it raise the women’s beauty standards?
The Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show has been widely criticized for promoting unrealistic and exclusive beauty standards by featuring a range of body types and showing an often unhealthy ideal of thinness. Some see it as a toxic parade, and women lose some self-esteem.
The producers and creators of the show attempted to make it more pleasant and less focused on the models’ bodies. The new show features a more diverse cast of models, including plus-sized, transgender, and pregnant women, and aims to promote a more body-positive approach rather than conforming to a single, narrow beauty standard. They still receive a lot of hate and have been criticized a lot after this year’s show.
The costumes and lingerie at this year’s Spectacle featured a range of styles, with many looks incorporating things like crystals and feathers, while others were more simplistic.
“I think the show was fabulous and it is certainly raising beauty standards, but if you are sensible, just don’t watch it.”Said one of the millions of viewers.
“Honestly, the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show has a real problem. It’s so objectifying, there’s barely any diversity in body sizes, and it keeps crossing the line with designs that bring an offensive cultural appropriation.” Said some of the haters of the VS show.
“The Victoria’s Secret Show makes it seem like only one kind of woman is beautiful, and that makes girls feel like they have to look perfect instead of just being themselves.” Told us Sarah Zambrano, a student of the school.
“I like the show because it’s fun and the outfits are creative, and I still feel confident about myself, and there are way worse things than that,” commented another student of the school.
Opinions on the famous lingerie runway show are mixed and varied. Only time will tell how this show changes in the future and how the producers handle it.
