An election to choose the next Prime Minister has already started and is going to last approximately 3 months. Christine Fréchette is officially a candidate for this post, and Bernard Drainville is now running against her. On January 14th, Mr. Legault announced that he would step down as Prime Minister as soon as a successor is able to take office.
Christine Fréchette has been working for Coalition Avenir Quebec since 2022, and she has occupied multiple positions. She has been the immigration minister, then occupied the position of minister of the economy, and had other posts in this Political Party.
Bernard Drainville applied Law 23 and forbade phones in elementary and high schools of the province. He also established the INEE program, which is also named “Institut National d’Excellence en Éducation du Québec.”
Coalition Avenir Quebec (CAQ) was created by François Legault and Charles Sirois in 2011. They merged Action Démocratique du Quebec (ADQ) with their new party, the CAQ, at this moment.
Since Mr. Legault has been the only chief of this party, a lot of citizens were unsatisfied with his work. Mr. Legault admitted that he made a lot of mistakes in his career, but one of his prides remains “One of our greatest achievements was making the CAQ a family… that’s what I’ll miss the most…” said our Prime Minister.
François Legault kept the same position for almost 8 years, and he won 2 elections. At first, people were mostly satisfied with his work, even if he was in post during the COVID-19 pandemic, which was a really hard moment for politicians. But recently, his population has been heavily unsatisfied, and reviews proved it would probably be better for his community if he left his post as Prime Minister.
In fact, François Legault influenced some people, such as Sonia Lebel. A few days after our Prime Minister announced he was going to renounce his position, Mrs. Lebel asserted she was going to finish her mandate and then quit for family reasons, but confessed Mr. Legault’s choice confirmed hers.
