Protein is more and more popular among teenagers and adults, but what is the reason?
This nutrient builds muscles, can improve workouts, and keeps people full longer because it is a source of energy.
The internet is the main reason for all these trends. Social media influencers, athletes, and fitness creators often promote the idea that protein is the solution for getting stronger, more energetic, and healthier. Multiple influencers share their new healthy and protein-rich meals, and people like to try them because they are often good and taste sweet, even if they are proteinaceous.
“I tried a healthy and protein-rich cookie dough, and I can’t stop doing it,” said Léanne.
Seeing the new trend, some fast-food restaurants started to offer protein drinks to add diversity to their menu. Tim Hortons recently announced some. They offer a protein latte and a protein quencher that are very appreciated.
“The other day, I tasted the new peach quencher, and it tasted so good that I forgot there was protein in it. I would add in my routine to go take one each morning if I could; it is my favorite one, and I don’t feel bad because there is protein in it,” explained Sarah.
Cottage cheese is another ingredient that is in storage because it has become very popular recently. It is a very good ingredient with a lot of nutrients in it. A lot started sharing their love for it, and others are filming themselves doing their favorite recipes, baking, and blending the cottage cheese. The sales had increased 26% since 2024.
“At this point, cottage cheese is part of my personality,” said Alicia Moffet in her video.
Additionally, Greek yogurt is all the rage; it is also becoming more and more popular. They contain a polypeptide and are low-sugar, so they are perfect to add to new healthy recipes.
The teenager’s recommendation for the quantity of protein is 46 grams, and for adults it is 56 grams, but it all depends on the size of the person. Be careful, don’t exceed the quantity, and don’t eat too much of it.
One thing is clear: protein is no longer only for athletes.
