Now, grocery prices have been very high since the beginning of the pandemic and both Covid-19 and climate change are different causes.

Since the beginning of the pandemic grocery prices have been on the rise. A Canadian food expert said eight months ago that we were expecting an increase of 5 per cent and that’s pretty much what’s going on. quote or more stats

Another reality that contributes to raisng the price of food indirectly is Shrinkflation. is coming back, “so basically, they’re not necessarily playing with the price all that much, but they’re reducing quantities” Charlebois said. This year beef is up 10%, pork is up 5%

. Unfortunately, Canadian grain farmers had a tough year due to drought and it damaged their crops. Which means the cost of food for cows and pigs has increased. Farmers will now need to sell off livestock to offset the costs of feeding them. It’s one of the causes of the increase in the prices of meat. “We’re expecting bread to become more expensive and bakery, in general, is going to be more expensive, for sure,” said Charlebois. Fortunately, a lot of Canadian food is cheaper this year.

The cost of chicken, fruits and vegetables has remained relatively stable throughout the pandemic.
