Valentine’s Day a Marketing-Made Holiday?

Every year around the same time most of the stores are flooded with heart decorations.

 

They are present in preparation for Valentine’s Day, the celebration of love. This holiday is widely celebrated in most countries of the planet on February 14. The day where love is at the honor and lovers around the world are appreciating it together. 

Most of the day, partners go to the cinema, to the restaurant, take walk together. It is common to receive gifts on this day. Some people go as far as buying luxury items (such as bags and clothes), a car, and even houses for their loved ones.

Valentine’s day is said to be an occasion for companies to take advantage of people and their companions.  According do people spend approximately 175.41$ on their significant others, and they were expecting to spend  $23.9 billion on Valentine’s Day this year—up from $21.8 billion in 2021. Forbes continues by reporting that more than 31% of Americans were planning an evening out.

 

The holiday started as a feast day commemorated by Christians in honor of two martyrs both named Saint Valentine. It evolved around the world and became a commercial celebration for love. Some say the day is very sad for single and reclusive people. 

 

The amount of suicide increases over the day of Valentine’s Day is very alarming. While most people are celebrating their love, some are depressed over the fact that they feel unloved or unworthy. However, some of those suicides are not valentine’s day related. Expert says the holiday evolve with the world around it and has become fairly celebrated.

 

Even though most companies take advantage of the Holidays, it’s still in the heart of many people around the world a day made for celebrating all types of love. Their love for their lovers, their family, and their friends.
