On September 22, Quebec was crowned the Frontier League champion. They won 6-5 against the Boomers of Schumburg in Game 7. That means that the winner of the game gets to take home the trophy.
The Canadian team walked off the game on a triple from Justin Gideon. It’s their 4th consecutive championship victory, a franchise record.
The organisation and the players celebrated around the city in the following days, where many local fans were present and greeted them for their wonderful season.
That team is hated by the entire league because, of course, they were the best this season, winning the majority of their games. Also, fans are loud and annoying, which is an advantage for the home team, the Caps.
” Just can’t believe how loud it is, how many fans are into baseball”, commented the new American players on the team.
The crowd is more active and festive than in any other stadium, often surprising the visiting team. The stadium is old, including the dugouts that have to be renovated soon.
The Quebec Capitales were founded in 1999 and played in the Northern League. In their rookie season, they posted a solid .500 record, which is acceptable for their first year in that league.
Also, in June, that team won 15 consecutive games, breaking another team record. In the regular season, they won 64 games and lost 28, which is considered a successful season. “I think we have to admit that this has been our best season in 26 years of history”, said the manager, Patrick Scalabrini.
This summer, the average number of fans per game was 3955, setting another record. Also, the organisation sold 181,942 tickets throughout the entire season.
Citizens who didn’t even know how baseball worked or didn’t like it came to cheer their home team. There were 33 sold-out games, many in the postseason and in the finals. People had to buy tickets really fast, since they sold out in less than 1 hour.
The fifty-fifty was always around $1500 to $3500, which is a larger range than in other years. This event is when fans donate some money; half is directed to the Capitales organisation, and the other half is collected in a prize pool, where only one half-half ticket wins the big loot.
In all their history, this incredible team accomplished 1286 wins and 987 losses, a really good record. They also won 7 league championships in the Can-Am League and 4 in the Frontier League.
