On January 6th, 2025, Justin Trudeau resigned from being Canada’s Prime Minister. People are now thinking, François Legault should maybe take M. Trudeau as an example. In fact, 61% of this society agreed it would be the best thing to do.
Although 6 out of 10 Quebecers want him to step down, when a journalist asked the provincial leader if he’ll stay in power until the next election, he replied, self-assured, “Absolutely.” Now, will he stay that confident even if a majority of his community is against him?
Quebec community may now regret their decision of supporting M. Legault for all these years. We can observe that Quebecers had a pretty good appreciation of their first minister in 2020, as they were satisfied with his achievements by 80%. In contrast, in 2025, 71% of the citizens reported being unsatisfied and only 22% said they were satisfied.
People have been looking for who could succeed him, but they don’t have much of an idea. From his community’s point of view, Simon Jolin-Barrette is the most popular of the candidates and in a tie with Geneviève Guilbault with a vote of 10% each.
Currently, the biggest debate in the province is Law 2. Lots of Quebecers are offended by that new law. In fact, 47% of the residents disagree with that legislation. This law aims to enhance access to medical services and alter the payment system for doctors, introducing potential sanctions for those who fail to meet government-imposed targets. It also implies a new system to track doctors’ performance. Some doctors’ organizations are also saying the law is against fundamental freedoms.
Lots of people are scared of doctors retiring or living in Quebec because of that rule not well-liked. Because of all the criticisms, M. Dubé, who imposed the law, decided they would finally not to apply the new system. Some citizens are saying even Dubé doesn’t know how to explain his own law and also wonder how can it be positive if they don’t even check their system.
