Gérald Trahan was scammed into believing that Lara Fabian, a popular singer, was going to divorce her husband to be with him.

Indeed, an increasing number of scammers are using the names of celebrities to obtain substantial sums of money from their victims. This is what happened with Gérald. To add, in an interview, he admitted losing nearly $400,000 due to this scam.

The man is 68 years old, and he has been a big fan of Lara Fabian since he saw her during one of her shows in Mauricie in 1994. Since he met her once, he began following and liking her online publications.

Scammers start talking to Gérald in the autumn of 2023, and since then, the messages continued to get more intense each time they text, which makes the man fall in love easily.

After the old man had fallen in love, the scammers began to ask for a large amount of money for different reasons. Gérald wasn’t able to decline because of his love.

Months later, he started getting into debt, and only around spring 2025, Gérald realized that maybe that was all a scam, but he wouldn’t believe this could be real, so his niece tried to make him hear the truth.

He felt very sad and heartbroken, but after being helped by his niece, Gérald didn’t feel betrayed.

To not be in debt anymore, he had to sell his house, and he lost everything.
