ICE has been increasingly criticized throughout Donald Trump’s presidency. In response to the president’s immigration policy, ICE became the largest federal law enforcement agency in US history. When the deportations started, citizens believed that they were being protected by the police, as they were taking away the criminals from their country. However, people started to realize that ICE was not only targeting felons, but immigrants with a clean criminal record, and even US citizens who looked different than the norm or were in the way of any ICE agent. Sometimes, even off-duty officers get arrested by them. This proves they are taking anyone hostage, no matter their nationality or whether they’re legal or not.
Reports from late 2025 noted numerous arrests, with nearly 327 000 deportations over two months. This is mostly due to Trump’s administration making ICE agents have 3 000 arrests/deportations per day, which leads to the hundreds of thousands of deportations annually. Allegations have also circulated about controversial ICE actions beyond the shooting, including claims of aggressive detentions and warrantless stops.
One of the most problematic actions by an ICE agent was done on January 7th, 2026. Where they shot a US citizen in Minneapolis, Renee Nicole Good, for blocking half the road. The federal government justified the shooting as a response to a perceived threat, though family and witnesses strongly disagree, as the agents refused to allow any medical help towards the white woman after she was shot three times in the face for using her free speech during a strike.
When asked about the Jan. 7 shooting, the administration was quick to defend the agency. “They’re gonna make mistakes sometimes,” he said. “ICE is gonna be too rough with somebody or- you know, they’re dealing with rough people. They’re gonna make a mistake sometimes. It can happen.” Shortly after, he stated that he felt bad for the woman, but this is only because her father is a Trump supporter. “We feel terrible. I felt horrible when I was told that the young woman had the tragedy. But when I learned that her father is — I hope he still is, but I don’t know — a tremendous Trump fan. He was all for Trump. Loved Trump.”
Despite having just blamed her for “threatening” the officer, as he claimed that Mrs. Good ran over Jonathan Ross, an ICE agent, which is a false statement, given the footage on the officer’s bodycam does not show any of this said threat. Even then, the administration stated the ICE agent as the victim and has raised donations up to 788 402$ on 850k.
The U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) is a federal law enforcement agency under the U.S. Department of Homeland Security. Its mission is to protect the country from transnational crime and illegal immigration. It was created as part of the Homeland Security Act of 2002, following the September 11 attacks.

During Obama’s presidency, there were so many more deportations compared to Trump’s. I have one question for your teacher: Why are you only complaining now ?

When it comes to writing articles, we pick the topic that we want to explore. It was not the teacher’s choice but my own. Sir, you should realize that I was just born during Obama’s tenure at the white house. So, I couldn’t have known.
According to my research, the deportations on his behalf were legal and far more professional than Trump’s reckless deportations, which are causing scenes and fear amongst citizens. In comparison with Obama, Trump ordered ICE agents to deport aliens without much thought for process or habeas corpus. As for Obama, he made sure that deportations were justified in court. Having this in mind, it makes more sense that people complain more about Trump than they did about Obama. Let’s not forget that criticizing Obama now is not going to make much of a change, because we have more recent controversies that need to be addressed.
