At the House of Assembly in Ottawa, 343 candidates can vote on law projects. The prime minister has to possess more than half of the assembly to pass any laws. So, he recently added 7 more candidates to his party, which put his party in the majority. Now, he has 174 people that he can count on to vote for his laws.
But what is floor-crossing? In Canada, floor-crossing refers to a political action where an elected member of the parliament leaves their current political party to join another party. In this case, it means that the minor parties lost members and the Liberal Party gained some.
The midterm survey was done in May 2026, and it presented surprising results. 46% of Canadians are still voting for the Liberals, 35% of them are voting for the Conservatives, and the rest are voting for a minority.

After the seven deputies changed sides, Pierre Poilievre said that such moves disregarded the mandate voters had given to Conservative candidates and accused the government of trying to gain power through political maneuvering rather than elections. The Conservatory party was in disbelief.
