The first trailer dropped a year before the release date, on November 20th, 2025.
The original book features Haymitch Abernathy, 24 years before his first encounter with Katniss Everdeen. The story happens during the 50th Hunger Games. For the second Quarter Quell, the number of tributes is doubled. This means Haymitch must outlive 47 other teenagers in a deadly arena.
On the way, he will make alliances that will stay in his heart forever, and will have rivalries that could take him to his grave. Haymitch is determined to break the arena as a sign of rebellion against the Capitol. He may have taken it too far, and now, anyone he knows and loves is in danger.
The casting truly stood out to fans as the best for the movies so far. The casting director, Debra Zane, blew the fans away with her amazing casting work. Most of them are excited to see how each actor will portray their respective characters.
Many fans were hoping for Elle Fanning as a younger Effie Trinket, so many of them were satisfied when it was the case.
Mckenna Grace as Maysilee Donner was another fan favourite. Grace was, in their opinion, a perfect fit for the character. Maysilee Donner is a stuck-up girl who, even when sent to the Games, is determined to keep her dignity.
Fans were also very pleased that the lead, Joseph Zada, was not an already known actor, but rather one whose career was just starting.
Erin Westerman, co-president of Lionsgate, the production company for the movie, stated about the Australian actor and his co-star, Whitney Peak (Lenore Dove in the movie):
“After auditioning hundreds of gifted performers from around the world, these two stood out—not just for their talent, but for the emotional truth they brought to these iconic roles.”
The trailer left all the fans of the movies and books on the edge of their seats for this movie. Every one of them is waiting for the big day, November 20th, 2026.
