The Milano Cortina Olympics will welcome a lot of performing Canadians and Quebecers to their event.
The First Athlete to keep track of is Mikael Kingsbury, a 33-year-old freestyle skier born in Saint-Agathe-Des-Monts, Quebec. He is considered the most successful athlete in the history of moguls and freestyle skiing because of the number of titles, victories, and medals he has won over his career. He won two silver medals at the Olympics (Sochi 2014 and Beijing 2022), and one gold medal in men’s moguls at the 2018 PyeongChang Winter Olympics. He has won 13 overall Moguls World Cup titles, which is a record for male athletes in this discipline. Mikaël has also won 9 Overall Freestyle World Cup titles, the highest number ever achieved by a male freestyle skier.
The second Quebecer you should absolutely watch is Marie-Philip Poulin, a 34-year-old ice hockey player born in Quebec, Quebec. She is captain of the Canadian women’s national ice hockey team, a role she has held since 2015. Marie also serves as the captain of the Montreal Victoire in the Professional Women’s Hockey League (PWHL). She won four Olympic medals in the past year, including three gold medals in Vancouver in 2010, Sochi in 2014, and Beijing in 2022, and one silver medal in PyeongChang in 2018. She also became the first female hockey player to win the Northern Star Award as Canada’s top athlete of the year.
Due to her sustained success, leadership, and impact on the sport, Marie Philip is widely regarded as one of the greatest women’s hockey players of all time, and one of the greatest Canadian hockey players regardless of gender.
For the third, Mark McMorris is a 32-year-old, really good snowboarder who has a good chance of winning medals. He was born in Regina, Saskatchewan. By no chance, Mark was just hurt on February 5th from training in preparation for the Winter Olympics in Livigno.
Mark Lee McMorris is a Canadian professional snowboarder who competes primarily in slopestyle and big air events. He is a three-time bronze medallist in the Winter Olympics of 2014, 2018, and 2022. In March 2011, while filming for Transworld Snowboarding’s Park Sessions, he became the first snowboarder in history to successfully land a Backside Triple Cork 1440 ( a highly technical maneuver). In 2018, he also achieved another historic milestone by landing the world’s first Double Cork performed off a rail, known as the Front-Board Double Cork 1170 with a melancholy grab. Mcmorris has a record of 22 medals at the X Games.
Next, Éliot Grondin is a 24-year-old snowboarder born in Saint-Marie, Quebec, who has a big chance and a big future in front of him.His 2021 gold medal made him the first Canadian in history to win the Junior World Championship title in snowboard cross. He competed in his first Winter Olympics in 2018 at the age of 16, becoming the youngest male athlete on Team Canada. He won a silver medal in snowboard cross and a bronze medal in the mixed team event at the 2022 Beijing Olympics. Grondin’s achievements make him one of Canada’s rising stars in snowboard cross, showing success at both junior and senior international levels.
Last but not least, William Dandjinou is a Canadian short-track speed skater and a four-time world champion. He is 24 years old and was born in Sherbrook.
In 2024, he won gold in the 1,000 m at the World Championships. In 2025, he won three gold medals, repeating as 1,500 m champion and winning gold in the men’s and mixed relays. He began the 2023–2024 season by winning the Canadian Championships and went on to earn multiple medals during the World Cup season. William is also a five-time medalist at the 2019 Canada Winter Games.
