Lindsey Vonn, one of the greatest skiers in the United States, fell and broke her leg along with her skis. She is 41 years old and has won multiple gold medals throughout her life, but her reign might end now. She’s had 3 injuries already and 2 surgeries on her knee. Despite the fact that she had surgery a week before, she came to compete for her country in Cortina, Italy.
Lindsey Vonn has been an Olympic gold medalist for years. She has been skiing since she was three years old. At the age of 17, she started her Olympic career. Lindsey has already won two gold medals, two world championships, and four World Cup titles. She is easily one of the best alpine skiers of all time.
She had a complex fracture on her shin at over 70mph. 13 seconds after the start of the course, she bumped into the air and hit one of the gates she had to dodge. She was then airlifted by helicopter.
“It’s super flat after it, so the goal is to be as close to that gate as possible, and she really nailed the turn, but she was too close to it, so she got hooked into it,” said Norwegian skier Kajsa Vickhoff Lie after the race. Lindsey Vonn was 5 inches from dodging the obstacle. Some say it was because of the bumps on the course, others say it was her skis, but the reality is that she was too old.
Since April 2024, she has had a robot-assisted partial knee replacement. Her prosthetic leg makes her agility drop. Maybe that’s the reason she failed the course, but it’s part of the reason she wasn’t hurt more. Speaking as of now, she is slowly recovering and training, but it’s still uncertain that she will come back to the 2030 Olympics.
