Lindsey Vonn is a 41-year-old woman, born on October 18, 1984. She was born in Saint Paul, Minnesota, United States.
She is an American alpine ski racer and has attempted her sport in many different disciplines in her career, such as downhill, super-G, giant slalom, slalom, and super combined.
She started doing this sport at the young age of three years old in Minnesota with her father and grandfather. She raced for the first time in competition at seven and her first international competition at nine years old.
Don Kildow, her grandfather, also taught Lindsey how to ski in Milton, Wisconsin. She continued doing what she liked since her father and grandfather encouraged her to keep pushing herself. She moved up her rank super fast and became, later on, one of the most successful American skiers.
She is the third highest in the super ranking of all skiers, for men and women. And she just came out of retirement to compete with the Stifel U.S. Ski Team.
In her whole skiing career, she has had three medals: one gold in 2010, in which she was the first American woman to ever get one, and two bronze in 2010 and 2018. She is also the only woman to have won four World Cups in alpine skiing events in the United States.
“I just called my dad, he was crying so hard, I’ve never heard him so emotional in my whole life, it made me cry too”, she said after becoming the oldest woman to have won in the Audi FIS Alpine World Cup history.
Lindsey went to the 1954 FIFA World Cup in Switzerland, on March 8th, to race in alpine skiing, but unfortunately crashed. She said later on that she had ACL (a torn anterior cruciate ligament).
This year, she has attempted to qualify for her fifth Winter Olympics in Milan-Cortina, only nine days after her ACL accident. She competed in alpine skiing, as always, on Sunday, February 7th. Unfortunately, she broke her left leg, 13 seconds into the race.
“Yesterday, my Olympic dream did not finish the way I dreamt it would”, said the Olympian two days after her leg incident.
As of now, she stated being in a stable condition after her two operations for her fracture in her left leg.
“Surgery went well today! Thankfully, I will be able to finally go back to the US! Once I’m back, I will give you more updates and info about my injury”, she said on Facebook.
