Cigarettes. A simple object that has killed over thousands and thousands of people, but can gather a lot of money. A simple object that has devastating effects like lung disease, cancers, heart disease and Emphysema. Should smoking be illegal? Personally, I would banish cigarettes.  I agree that cigarettes can make us gain billions of dollars, but it’s still harmful for health and also for the pollution of our planet.

The only reason why cigarettes are still legal is that government can make a lot of money out of it. If it was only a decision based on health, cigarettes would be illegal. In 2014-2015, Québec made 1,069,000,000$ only by cigarettes. Mitch Greenlick, from Portland, would make nicotine a controlled substance, and he said that possessing more than 0.1 milligrams would be illegal, punishable by a year in prison or $6,250 fine. Exceptions would be made for people who had a doctor’s prescription for the drug, according to the bill.

On the healthy side, cigarettes reduce your appetite, which is why some smokers have a lower weight. It also leads to weight loss by amassing the metabolic rate, diminishing metabolic efficiency, and diminishing caloric absorption (reduce appetite). Some people may think that smoking cigarettes reduce your appetite, so this a good way to lose weight. Not at all. In  each of the cigarettes, there are multiplicity of chemical products that may cause blood cancer, lung cancer, prostate cancer, leukemia, and way more problems. You may have seen some preventions on the cigarette’s package. It’s not only harmful for you, but also for your friends, children, family, etc. Tobacco takes a lot of human’s life. Indeed, cigarettes causes 450,000 premature deaths each year.

It would be good if cigarettes was biodegradable or would just disintegrate. They remain on the ground, beaches, and also the water. Because they remain in the water, the bird’s, fish’s, and mammal’s life can be at stakes. Some people when they throw their cigarette’s butt don’t turn it off completely so they can possibly light up a fire. Fire by cigarettes cause half a billion dollars  per year. Sadly in 2005, cigarette’s fire killed 800 people and injured 1660 others.

In conclusion, smoking should definitely be illegal because it’s nocuous for health and also for pollution. The government keep it legal only because they make a lot of money out of it. There’s an average of 200 Quebecers killed every week by cigarette. They should create a cigarettes that is non-harmful for health and would be biodegradable. They could make perhaps as much money they do with tobacco.
