On January 15, 2016, in Ouagadougou,Burkina Faso, six Quebecers were reunited to celebrate the end of their humanitarian trip. They were there to build a school and help Burkinabe people. These Quebecers and many other people lost their lives in a terrorist attack. Thirty person were killed in this tragedy and seventy injured. The victims were from Canada, Switzerland, United states and other countries. It left a huge feeling of sadness and emptiness  and affected many families.

The victims of this tragedy were Yves Carrier, his wife Gladys Chamberland as well as their two children: Maude and Charlelie and their close friends, Suzanne Bernier and Louis Chabot. Some of them were known for there implication with students in the ”Commission scolaire de la capitale”. The classes were canceled at Cardinal-Roy and Jean-de-Brébeuf where they worked or have worked, but the secondary schools were opened for staff and students who needed support. On January 19, all classes of the ”CSC” held a minute of silence.

On January 18, a ceremony was held at Lac Beauport as a tribute to the Carrier family and their friends. People were singing and sharing moments together in front of candles and pictures of the victims. The next day, this was the repatriation of the bodies in Quebec City. On February 6, funerals will take place for five of the six victims.

A month earlier, Louis Chabot, from Boudreau High school,  and Maude Carrier, from Cardinal-Roy posted two videos for the new year. They wanted to wished their students to realize their dreams, and success in their exams. They also wanted to express  how much they believed in them. The videos last about thirty seconds, and were shot in the streets of Burkina Faso.

Next monday night at “chapelle de lac-Beauport”, a moment of prayer is scheduled at 7 o’clock at night.  We feel so sorry for all their families. They were all unique and generous individuals that will be greatly missed.
