A real problem has now been happening at La Camaradière, and people wonder why. Since the beginning of the year, approximately 3 fire alarms have disrupted our classes, making them almost routine for students now.
But the situation has worsened, and there are now far too many.
At the beginning of each school year, the school has to set a fake fire alarm to test the system and see if the staff and students would know what to do if there was a real fire. This one is programmed and supposed to happen when no one is expecting it.
Since a high school is full of teenagers, it’s easy to think all these alarms are caused by people wanting to joke or participate in strange bets.
But in fact, this year, the last 2 alarms that happened at La Camaradière were caused by an electrical issue in the new part of the school. This seems to be a recurring pattern, as it has happened a few times in the past few years. For example, the first fire alarm, which occurred at the beginning of the year, was caused by a microwave that caught on fire
A few students have noticed that the firefighters are taking too much time to arrive. Ève said, “I was surprised to see how unbothered the firefighters seemed. I thought they would be running, but they were always walking and were unserious.” These firemen are taking 10 minutes each time to get to the school, and they also often forget students in the building, which is a very dangerous mistake.
While it’s a non-serious problem to some students, because in their opinion it doesn’t really concern them since they are not the ones who can resolve it, for some other students it’s a really serious issue, and it should have been fixed for a long time. “I think the fire alarms are something which should be looked into more because each time there’s one, it disturbs classes and students in exams.” – Jeanne
While fire alarms are repetitive at La Camaradière, a majority of the students and staff think it is a big problem, and solutions should be found to stop the problem. This issue made people discover others, such as students who have been forgotten in the school during an alarm.
