Many students are caught red-handed using AI to raise their grades, but a question often arises: would students use AI if school were about learning rather than grades?
School is a lot about grades; they define whether you can do the job you want and study what you want. Overall, it defines your future. It is a lot of pressure on students to get good grades, to the point that some of them turn to AI to pass their evaluations.
The goal of many students is not to understand; it is to pass their exam. Isn’t that a problem? Some students don’t care whether they understand; they just want a grade higher than 60%.
School was created to educate children, but with all the pressure and difficulty some of them feel, they will turn to AI to cheat on their exams and won’t learn. How would you feel knowing that your future doctor is currently using AI to pass his exams?
”I think that students would really take the time to understand at school if their grades didn’t have that big of an impact. All of the exams have a big value, so if you accidentally have 1 bad exam, it still counts a lot and discrase a lot your grade, so if we could find a way to not only value the children’s understanding with questions, I think that the school system would really be improved and students would take the time to learn more.”
Some students have a lot of difficulty at school, and even when they try their best and ask questions, their grades are not good enough. Their main goal is just to pass their exams, even if they don’t understand the subject.”If students really want to learn, wouldn’t they just ask their teacher and really try to understand instead of cheating and making their way through?”
Also, pressure is one of the biggest reasons students cheat, so if school were really about learning, students might feel less pressure and not turn to cheating. “Students cheat in exams because our education system values grades more than learning.”
It was also shown that there are two types of people using AI at school: those who want to validate their answers and are tough, and those who use it to cheat.
There are many different opinions on the subject; some think that the school system is great and that it is the students fault if they cheat. “I think that the grades represent well if the student understood the subject.”
All in all, everyone wants students to succeed, although is the current teaching method the best one?
Well many people don’t like the way that schools teach. Everyone has a different way of learning and processes information in a different way and the schools don’t value every student to make them shine in their own way.
There are many types of intelligence:
- Logical-Mathematical Intelligence
- Linguistic Intelligence
- Interpersonal Intelligence
- Intrapersonal Intelligence
- Musical Intelligence
- Visual-Spatial Intelligence
- Bodily-Kinaesthetic Intelligence
- Naturalist Intelligence
- Existential Intelligence
Although, school privilege only Linguistic and Mathematical intelligence, which is only 2 types out of nine. This is why school isn’t adapted for everyone and it is harder for some students.
“I think that we could find a way to improve school to adapt it to everyone. Schools could explore many ways of teaching, For example, in my English call we run a online newspaper, the Camaradiant, which makes us learn differently, we work with each other, we learn to collaborate and to run a business.”
