La camaradière proposes a new sport in parascolar: flag football.
Luckily, since this activity is new at the school, the participation doesn’t cost anything except for the equipment you need to buy.
Flag football is a variation of football, but many rules differ from those of traditional football. What principally makes the difference between these two sports is the safety. Flag football is a non-contact sport; instead of tackling, the players wear flags, and the opponents pull them to stop the game. Also, the team sizes aren’t the same. While a football game is played 11 vs 11, flag football is played 5 vs 5.
People in the team seem to enjoy this activity a lot at la Camaradière. “Bringing this sport to La Camaradiere was a great Idea. It’s really fun, and I already love everything about this game!” Said Léanne Jobin.
There are two coaches on the team: Éliane and Nathan.
Éliane plays a big role in two sports. She is a great volleyball coach of two cadet teams (The purple and blue ones). And now she is the head coach for the flag football team.
Nathan works at La Camaradière as the sports manager. He organizes the practice schedule, invites the teams to all the tournaments and games, and buys the jerseys. He plays a key role in the school’s sports community. This flag football season, Nathan is an assistant coach.
The season runs for about a month and a half, including practices. There are three tournaments scheduled in May. On top of that, if the athletes succeed in ranking in the 8 first eight teams, they will qualify for the series.
There are 16 girls in the team, which is a lot, but the focus this season is principally on training and development to build a stronger team for next year.
Like every other sport, flag football requires specific gear. The essentials you need are cleats, which are shoes with spikes, a mouthpiece for protection, a belt with flags, and athletic shorts without pockets so they don’t get ripped when someone tries to unflag you.
There weren’t enough inscriptions to create a male team, so this year’s parascolar flag football will only have a girls cadet team.
